About this guide

Rovaniemi Winter is an independent guide to the city on the Arctic Circle between October and April. Patrick Kühne writes and runs it from Germany. He also publishes separate Rovaniemi sites about husky safaris, reindeer farms, snowmobile safaris and the northern lights.

Sources we rely on

Climate figures come from the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), sunrise and sunset times from official astronomical data. For flights we use Finavia, for trains VR, for city buses Linkkari and for winter driving rules Traficom. Visit Rovaniemi and the websites of the attractions and tour operators supply opening hours, dates and what a visit includes. The list at the end of every article shows which pages it draws on. All of them were checked in October 2026.

Sometimes official pages contradict each other, for example on how long the sun stays up in December. In those cases we follow the measured data, point out the difference or leave the detail out. Timetables and opening hours change during the season, so the official page is always the final reference.
